Welcome
Margaret's House is a registered non-profit residential centre based in Lansdowne, Cape Town and was established in 1987 by the initiative of five Anglican churches. It accommodates up to 20 children from troubled families who are at risk of becoming street children.

The organisation aims to provide the least restrictive setting for children who are orphaned and/or abandoned and cannot be absorbed into their own communities as well as children who have been placed at MH by the courts because of inadequacy or a complete breakdown in the primary care environment. The organisation also provides services to emotionally and/or behaviourally troubled children (and their families).

In most instances our child and youth care professionals work with young people that originate from environments described as / classified as:
  • a homeless existence / living "on the street"
  • single / two parent families (where unemployment, alcohol or drug abuse is prevalent)
  • circumstances in which children have been neglected, deprived or abused (sexual, physical, emotional)
Their biggest challenge is to establish and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships. This challenge is made especially difficult considering that some children did not form strong attachments with their primary care givers prior to arriving at MH.
